Did You Know 🤔

A 14-year-old kid named Willie Hutchison was out in the desert with his dad's gold mining crew when he literally stumbled across the first opal in Coober Pedy. Story goes that he wandered off from camp looking for water and instead found what would kick off Australia's opal mining boom. The crew had been searching the area for gold, but Willie's accidental discovery turned this remote spot into the opal capital of the world. These days, Coober Pedy produces 85% of the world's opals - all thanks to a kid who got a bit lost.

Burma The Elephant 🐘

Something pretty special just happened at Monarto Safari Park! After 30 long years without an elephant in SA, we've just welcomed Burma, a 42-year-old Asian elephant who made the epic journey from Auckland Zoo. And get this - she's moving into a massive 30 acre pad (that's about 23 footy fields!) complete with waterholes, mud wallows, and a custom-built barn with solar power. But here's the cool part - Burma's just the first of five elephants moving into this elephant paradise! While she's chilling in quarantine for now (with her keepers from NZ who've known her for over 25 years!), she'll soon be joined by four elephant mates from Perth and Sydney Zoos.
