I know heaps of you love the “Trivia” and “Did You Know” segments in Adelaide Insider, but I reckon I’ll eventually struggle to dig up more facts tied just to South Australia for those segments.

So, I’m wondering if you’d be cool with me sticking to South Australian trivia and local history but also tossing in some Aussie-wide stuff too. It’d make it easier for me to keep finding fresh, interesting things to write about for you guys without burning through the SA-only list too quick.

Answer: Wedge-Tailed Eagle

The Wedge-Tailed Eagle is not only Australia’s largest bird of prey, but also one of the largest eagles in the world. With a wingspan that can reach up to 2.7 meters (almost 9 feet), it's an impressive and powerful flier, often seen gracefully gliding over the rugged landscapes of the Flinders Ranges.

Named for its distinctive wedge-shaped tail, this eagle is known for its sharp eyesight, incredible soaring abilities, and striking silhouette against the outback sky. It plays a crucial role in the ecosystem by helping to control populations of rabbits and other small animals, as well as scavenging carrion.
